Essential Builders Trailer: The No-Fuss Builders Trailer Explained

New Tech Trailers Essential Builders Trailer, front right view, with the builders rack, front toolbox and all-terrain tyres

Not every builder wants a trailer full of shelving, wiring and batteries they will never use. Sometimes you just want a tough, lockable box on a solid chassis, a rack for your ladders, and the freedom to set the inside up the way your trade works. If you do not want the extras, and you do not want to be sold any either, this is the trailer for you.

That is the Essential Builders Trailer. Here is what it is, who it suits, and what to check before you buy one.

What the Essential Builders Trailer is

The Essential is an enclosed builders trailer with an empty main compartment. It is built on the same platform as our Advanced Builders Trailer, with the same side drawer, front toolbox, rear door with shelving and 2 long drawers, builders rack, suspension, axle, rims and tyres. The difference is the main compartment: the Essential leaves it empty and leaves out the power package, so you get a blank canvas instead of a set layout.

Who it suits

The Essential is for builders, contractors and tradespeople who need a strong, reliable work trailer and do not need onboard power. That usually means:

  • Builders and carpenters carrying power tools, hand tools and materials to site
  • Contractors and subbies who already run tools off site power or their own generator
  • Tradies who like their own setup, and want to fit shelving, bins or racking to suit how they work
  • Small crews who need lockable storage that moves from job to job

If you want solar, batteries and 240V power built in, look at the Advanced Builders Trailer on the same platform.

Open storage you set up your way

Inside, the main compartment is left empty with no fit-out, so you can organise tools, materials and larger gear however suits your trade. Everything you reach for most is close at hand:

  • Side drawer for commonly used tools and consumables
  • Front toolbox for straps, gear and worksite essentials
  • Rear door with shelving and 2 long drawers so smaller tools and consumables stay sorted and easy to reach
  • Builders rack, 2,400mm long and 1,500mm wide, for ladders, lengths of material and oversized items

An extended front rack is available as an optional extra.

The Essential works exactly as it comes, so you do not need to add a thing. If you want to, a few optional extras are available, including a front T rack ($695), upgraded jockey wheels and portable power solutions. They are there if you want them, but none of them are necessary for this trailer.

Essential or Advanced?

Both trailers share the same platform and exterior. Choose the Essential if you want an open body to fit out yourself and do not need power on the trailer. Choose the Advanced if you want the internal fit-out and a power package with solar, batteries, an inverter and 240V outlets ready to go.

What to check before you buy

  1. Your tow vehicle. With a 3,000kg ATM, your vehicle needs to be rated to tow at least 3,000kg, fitted with a 50mm tow ball. Check your owner's manual for the towing capacity.
  2. A brake controller. The trailer has electric brakes on all four wheels, so your vehicle needs an electric brake controller. An Elecbrakes EB2 brake controller is available as an extra.
  3. How you will fit it out. Think about the shelving, bins or racking your trade needs, and whether you need power on site. If you do, compare it with the Advanced.
  4. Extras. Options include a front T rack, an Ark XO750 jockey wheel, 3-door sign writing, the Elecbrakes EB2 brake control and 12 month QLD rego.
  5. Delivery. Inspect and collect from our yard at 11 Jade Dr, Molendinar, or we deliver Australia-wide. Delivery is quoted to your postcode.
