If you spend part of every job shovelling soil, gravel or green waste off the back of a trailer, a hydraulic tipper changes your day. You back up, press a button and the load slides off. No shovel, no second person, no wasted hour at the end of the job.
Here is who a tipper suits, what it can carry and what to check before you buy one.
Who a hydraulic tipper suits
A tipper earns its keep when you move loose, heavy material often. That usually means:
- Landscapers carting soil, mulch, sand, pavers and sleepers to and from site
- Earthmovers and excavation crews shifting spoil and road base
- Builders cleaning up sites and taking demolition material to the tip
- Property owners and acreage blocks moving gravel, firewood and green waste
If most of your loads are tools and boxed gear, a builders or tradesman trailer is a better fit. If most of your loads are loose and heavy, a tipper pays back the difference every time you unload.
What our tipper can carry
The New Tech Trailers hydraulic tipper comes in two sizes. Both have a 3,500kg ATM (the most the loaded trailer can weigh).
| 10x6 | 12x7 | |
|---|---|---|
| Tray (L x W) | 3,000 x 1,800mm | 3,600 x 2,100mm |
| Side height | 400mm | 300mm |
| Tare (empty weight) | 1,300kg | 1,500kg |
| Payload | up to 2,200kg | up to 2,000kg |
| Cage height | 600mm | 600mm |
| Rear | Barn door | 300mm rear panel |
| Price (inc. GST) | $10,900 | $12,900 |
The 10x6 carries more weight. The 12x7 has the bigger tray, which suits lighter, bulky loads like mulch and green waste. Both come with 600mm full-height cages with removable sides, so you can stack bulky loads higher.
How the tipping works
A 5-tonne, 5-stage hydraulic ram lifts the tub. It runs off an onboard 12V battery, and a solar panel charger keeps the battery topped up between jobs.
That matters on site. You don't need to plug into the tow vehicle or run a generator to tip, and the trailer is ready for the next load when you are.
Before you tip: unlatch the body
The tub is held down to the chassis by a body latch, so it stays put while you tow. Don't forget to unlatch the body before tipping.

Latched: the hook is over the catch. Leave it like this for towing.

Unlatched: the hook is off the catch and the body is free to tip.
Never attempt to tip with the body latched. The ram will push against a body that is still locked to the chassis, and that can seriously damage the trailer. Check every body latch is released before you press the button, and latch the body again once it is back down, before you tow.

What to check before you buy
- Your tow vehicle. At a 3,500kg ATM you need a vehicle rated to tow at least 3,500kg and an electric brake controller to run the trailer's brakes.
- Your typical load. Heavy, dense material (soil, gravel, road base) suits the 10x6 and its higher payload. Lighter, bulky material suits the larger 12x7 tray.
- Where you tip. To get the full use of the tipping function you will usually need to locate a commercial tip or waste facility with designated tipping areas, so it is worth knowing your nearest one before you buy. Either way, the larger tray sizes are still great for transporting large amounts of product wherever you need to. And if you do tip into tight spots, the 10x6's rear barn door makes for easier tipping.
- Delivery. You can collect from our yard at 11 Jade Dr, Molendinar, or we deliver Australia-wide. Delivery is quoted by location, so talk to our team for a price to your postcode.
